The ‘It’s Not Cool To Be Cruel’ program was written by student Nathan Cassar and is partnered by Wests Tigers.
Anti-Violence Movement, Enough Is Enough, presents the program under the leadership of CEO Ken Marslew.
Wests Tigers players Chris Heighington and Todd Payten are the club’s ambassadors. Players attend schools as part of the program.
Under a recent headline of 'rugby league stars tackle school bullying epidemic', the Daily Telegraph reported how the club is using its players to help stamp out bullying and aggressive behaviour.
A Year 11 student at Elderslie High School, Nathan was inspired to develop his program through past personal experiences with bullying and his passion to help others overcome bullying in schools.
Nathan and Wests Tigers have produced an anti-bullying DVD to be shown in schools featuring key messages from Wests Tigers players including captain Robbie Farah, Benji Marshall, and Gareth Ellis.
In a letter to Wests Tigers, Megan Predl, Assistant Principal at Campbelltown East Public School, said the program proved very beneficial on Wednesday, June 10.
“I just wanted to thank Wests Tigers, Enough is Enough staff and Nathan Cassar for the presentation at Campbelltown East,’’ she wrote.
“All staff and students were impressed by the various speakers and the message they were giving on bullying.
“The program was engaging and interesting, and the children really listened carefully to the personal story given by Nathan.
“The kids loved the opportunity to get signatures from Blake Lazarus.
“The message given on bullying was powerful and I believe it was a very worthwhile experience for our students to participate in. Thanks again.’’
