The Warriors have confirmed the recruitment of former Wigan centre Anthony Gelling on a one-year deal.
The 27-year-old Cook Islands international was granted an early release by Wigan after six years at the Super League powerhouse – which included a grand final win in 2016 – and returned to training at the Auckland-based club earlier this week.
"It's a stroke of luck for us that Anthony has come back," Warriors coach Stephen Kearney said.
"He proved himself in the Super League and has immediately impressed us at training this week.
"We're thrilled we've been able to add him to our squad. He brings size and some special skills, providing further depth and increasing competition among our outside backs."
Gelling adds to the depth in the Warriors outside backs; while ex-Shark Gerard Beale is racing the clock to be fit for round one after breaking his leg at the World Cup, the likes of David Fusitu'a, Solomone Kata, Blake Ayshford and new recruit Peta Hiku ensure Gelling has plenty of competition for spots.
In a club statement, Gelling said football wasn't the reason he returned early from the UK.
"I'd had six seasons in England and I really wanted to be back in New Zealand around my family," Gelling said.
"I'm grateful for everything Wigan did for me and for allowing me to head home early."
