Brisbane Broncos legend Steve Renouf says playing Jack Bird in the halves is an option coach Wayne Bennett has to unlock the side's attack in this week's NRL Podcast.

Bird trained this week in the halves in place of Kodi Nikorima, who is battling a corked thigh, and Renouf has weighed up why that could work in the future after another Broncos loss.

Renouf has again called on centre James Roberts to play on the same side of the field as Anthony Milford, a call he's made for 18 months. Now Renouf insists the current formation is impacting more than Robert's effectiveness but also the entire team. Renouf has called on Bennett to make a change even if it is for a week to see how it goes.

Renouf analyses what Wayne Bennett's statement that he would not be making any changes to his halves combination really means, the reasons for the Nathan Brown-Wayne Bennett feud and explains why he believes the Broncos can ambush and upset the New Zealand Warriors on Saturday.

Renouf discusses why the Gold Coast Titans are the best placed of the Queensland teams after five rounds, what the North Queensland Cowboys must do to get their season back on track and why the St George Illawarra Dragons juggernaut will roll on against the Cronulla Sharks.
