Although Parramatta coach Brad Arthur was pleased with the collective effort against Canberra, he knows winning NRL games is a different beast.
With the Eels' finals hopes slowly fading away, so is their confidence.
Arthur believes their six consecutive defeats in the Telstra Premiership are due to poor discipline in defence and not capitalising on try-scoring opportunities.
"We are a bit lost for words at the moment because everyone's really disappointed. Winning becomes a habit and unfortunately so does losing," he said.
"I thought the effort was great, we're trying really hard but that’s not good enough to win us NRL games.
"We keep shooting ourselves in the foot with ill-discipline. It wasn’t so much errors in the first half, but the start of the second half on the back of a penalty we defended it and then made an error coming out of the red zone.
"We also can’t scrounge out a try at the moment which is not great for our confidence."

One positive to come out of the 18-2 defeat at GIO Stadium was the return of Clint Gutherson at fullback.
"It was a good return for Clint, he got through with his knee OK,'' Arthur said.
"It's good for him because he worked really hard in the pre-season, and he got better and better as the game went on."
