Ruan Sims stands down as Dally M judge

Ruan Sims has stood down as a Dally M judge following revelations the Jillaroos star voted on a game despite playing for local club Cronulla at the same time.

Under NRL rules, a judge for the prestigious award must be in attendance before placing votes immediately after the game.

Social media picked up on the scheduling clash between Sims' game and the NRL fixture, sparking uproar online over the weekend and verbal accusations towards the World Cup winner.

Sims clarified the incident in a statement on Monday before announcing she would step down from the role.

"There was a late change in my playing schedule and this meant I was unable to attend the Eels vs Sea Eagles match live," the statement read.

"I understand there is a requirement to watch matches live when judging for Dally M points. I respect the game and more importantly I value the integrity of the game above all else.

"My mistake was an honest one, albeit a mistake that I should not have made.

"For this reason I have made the decision to stand down as Dally M judge."

Sims had voted on two NRL games in 2018 – for the round two clash between South Sydney and Manly, and more recently the game in question in round seven featuring Parramatta and Manly.

NRL CEO Todd Greenberg has confirmed the round seven votes will be reviewed by another judge.

Sims gave three points to Eels halfback Mitchell Moses in the 44-10 victory over the Sea Eagles with co-captain Tim Mannah claiming two points and Apisai Koroisau one point.

Those votes will now no longer stand.
