Rabbitohs band together to support Walker

South Sydney's coach and playing group will head down to Nowra today to support five-eighth Cody Walker at his mother's funeral.

The popular Walker played in his club's upset win over the Dragons on Mother's Day on Sunday, barely a week after his mother Linda tragically passed away suddenly due to a heart attack.

Walker won admirers across the game for a courageous performance against the Knights just days after Linda passed and was solid again on Sunday, with three busts and 83 metres in the impressive win.

"We're all going to head to Cody's mum's funeral [Monday] in Nowra – I think it's really important we support one of our mates," coach Anthony Seibold said after the win when discussing the team's immediate plans.

Walker's close mate, back-rower Angus Crichton, spoke in the sheds about the importance for the club of getting around Walker at this time.

"We didn't talk about [winning the game for him] it but the way I've seen Cody grow over the last four years I've been at the club, when I first met him he hadn't played first grade, he was a skinny little fella from up Casino, the way I've seen him grow into the man he is today, I couldn't be prouder of Cody," Crichton said.

"I'm really close with him and his partner and his two boys Kade and Kian and he's an absolute champion and I'm so proud of the man he's become today.

"I've gone back to Casino with him and done some work up there with him … met his family and those sort of things. I love him as a person and love him as a player so I couldn't be prouder of Cody and the man he is today."
