Bennett refuses to be drawn into Napa debate

Broncos coach Wayne Bennett didn't want to be drawn into the outrage over Dylan Napa's tackle on Andrew McCullough after their 22-8 win over the Roosters at Allianz Stadium.

Bennett expressed his anger in a similar situation in the round 11 match between the two sides when Napa broke the jaw of Brisbane prop Korbin Sims - but this time he's leaving it up to the NRL.

"I had a lot to say about it last time. I stood up for my player then and I made my feelings known to everybody, it's up to the NRL now to do what they have to do," Bennett said on Saturday night.

McCullough will go for scans in the next couple of days to make sure there are no facial fractures. He left the field in the 24th minute and didn't return.

Bennett declined to comment on whether the Napa tackle was a bad look for the game. 

"I could make myself a headline very easily but I'm not going to do it," Bennett said.

"He's got some facial injuries, we're just not sure the extent of those but hopefully they won't be too bad.

"In regards to his actual concussion, he's pretty good. He came in the change room and he recovered pretty quickly so I don't think there's any long-term effects."

Broncos skipper Darius Boyd said considering this is the second time Napa has led with his head and made contact with an opponent's head it may be time for the Roosters prop to look at his technique.

"He's an aggressive player. It was probably something to do with his technique," Boyd said.

"It doesn't happen by chance, not a couple of times - it's probably something he needs to look at."

The Broncos' victory saw them leapfrog the Warriors into seventh spot after Stephen Kearney's men had gone past them on Friday night with a big win over Penrith.

After losses to the Bulldogs and Cowboys, the Broncos are back on track with successive wins against top-four teams Souths and the Roosters. 

"It's the right time of the year to be playing good football," Bennett said.

"If we're going to make a statement we have to make it soon because we are running out of time.

"The guys just got the realisation that we had a chance to miss out on the play-offs.

"We just have to hope that we can keep it going."
