Kyle Flanagan, the 19-year-old son of head coach Shane Flanagan, will make his NRL debut when he takes to the field for the Sharks later today in their clash with the Newcastle Knights.
Flanagan, who has been a stand-out for the Newtown Jets in the Intrust Super Premiership throughout 2018, comes into the Sharks team for Matt Moylan in becoming the 524th Sharks first grade player.
Moylan's injury concerns are not thought to be serious, with the Sharks five eighth likely to be fit to return for his teams final round match against the Bulldogs next Sunday.
Flanagan becomes just the ninth player to be coached by his father in the top grade and the first in 14 years since John Lang was in charge of the Panthers in 2004 when Martin was one off his front row forwards.
Other Sharks to play under the coaching of their fathers include John Glossop in 1977 with Ted as coach, Martin Lang from 1996-2001 and Jarrad Anderson when Chris Anderson was Cronulla coach in 2003.
The record setting point scorer in the Holden Cup competition, a mark he set last season, it is yet to be revealed whether Flanagan will also take over the goal-kicking duties.
Otherwise the Sharks are expected to be unchanged for the game against the Knights, a match where they can make another push towards a top four berth. The Sharks 17-man team will be confirmed one-hour before kickoff.
