Corey Norman leaves Eels for Dragons

The St George Illawarra Dragons have confirmed the signing of former Eels playmaker Corey Norman on a three-year deal.

Norman was released from the final year of his Parramatta contract and is expected to slot into the halves at the Dragons, with Gareth Widdop to shift to fullback in 2019.

The 28-year-old five-eighth has played 167 games in the NRL since making his Telstra Premiership debut with Brisbane in 2010.

"It's a big day for myself and my family. There are some exciting times ahead," Norman .

"The squad at the moment is good, we have had a good couple of years. I am looking forward to getting to play with the boys and having a good couple of years."

As well as changing NRL clubs, Norman was also named in the Emerging Maroons squad. The Queenslander hopes the upcoming camp leads to higher honours.

Norman on why he chose the Red V

"Kevvie [Walters] gave me a call, it was exciting. We will go into camp and have a good couple of days. Hopefully, things can move on from there."

Norman, who spent five seasons with the Eels, is expected to add to both the attacking and kicking games of the Dragons.

"Corey is a player who will entertain all members and fans with his ability in attack. He is a player who we see will take us to the next level with the way he plays the game," Dragons Director of Rugby League Pathways and List Management Ian Millward said.

"Straight away, there will be speculation around the position he'll play and that'll be up to the coach. We feel Corey as a quality player will give Paul [coach McGregor] an opportunity to work with some really outstanding talent."
