Robinson wants next 20 years of WCC locked in

Roosters coach Trent Robinson has called on the NRL and Super League to outline a 20-year schedule to secure the future of the annual World Club Challenge.

Robinson claimed his second WCC title when the 2018 NRL premiers beat Super League champions the Wigan Warriors 20-8 at DW Stadium.

"Come on, sort it out so we all lock in [a schedule]," Robinson said in the post-match press conference.

"There is a discussion between two clubs every October, 'Are we going to do this?', 'Where are we going to do this?'

"I'm sure there's some really smart people in two different leagues that can sit down for two or three days and organise the next 20 years.

"We're all going to play it, but let's not have this discussion at the end of every year. Let's lock it in."

The Roosters became just the second team to win the WCC trophy for a fourth time.

The Tricolours' last title was under Robinson's guidance in 2014, when they beat Wigan at Allianz Stadium in Sydney.

"It's one of the best games to play," Robinson said.

"We're really proud. We've won four – along with Wigan. When we get an opportunity to get a fifth we'll go after the fifth again. We want to play in these. There's not even a question about it.

"We have to have it. I'm not sure about the timing of it. There's no perfect time.

"We've played it for 20 years straight.

"I'd implore somebody to sort it out and get it fixed for the next 20 years."
