After playing his best game this season Mitch Moses happily deflected praise to his Parramatta teammates.
"My team put me in a good position to be able to do those things. The back five are laying a good platform and then my forwards get me on the front foot," Moses said after last week's commanding performance against the Sharks.
"It's a credit to all of the other players. They are doing a great job."
That might have been partly true of Moses' two line break assists and two try assists. But the three tackle breaks and four goals from four attempts were all his own doing.
"Look I've still got a lot of things I want to work on in my game. As a group of 17 we still need to fix up some things which we didn't quite nail on the weekend," he said.
Moses, who is off contract this year, has let his actions do the talking on what his value is to the Eels.
He is disappointed though that some might think his rallying form is about renewing his contract, rather than coming off the back of a revamped pre-season.
"I don't want people thinking that just because I'm off contract I'm all of a sudden playing well. Our whole team is playing well," he said.
"If I look into that contract stuff too much it does affect your game. I've left that up to my management – whenever a deal comes up or something comes up they will let me know.
"Other than that I'm playing for Parra. We weren't good last year at all. So my full focus this year was to get Parramatta back to the top."
One of those players whose form is also blossoming is centre Michael Jennings – four tries in three games to date. He scored just six in 24 games last season.
"I feel like there is still more that I can give and more to learn," he told pan66.com.
"Last year was a big learning curve, although I never doubted myself or my ability. I guess being part of a team that wants to succeed, shows we are all playing not for ourselves but for the team this year."
Despite a healthy 3-1 start from the Eels, who travel to Canberra on Sunday for round five, there is still more to come.
"We've still got players out. Probably our best forward in Nathan Brown [pectoral] is out for 10 weeks and Manu [Ma'u] who's out for six [knee]. That's two of our starters," Moses said.
"But like I've been saying whoever comes in is doing a great job. That's the feel we want to get around the club – if stuff like that happens and someone goes down, whoever comes in has to do a job and do it well."
Moses is more than comfortable calling the shots.
"I try to take control and get the boys around the field as much as possible. But I haven't spoken to Brad [Arthur] about it. I didn't want to come out and say 'It's my team'," he said.
"It's the whole group's and we need everyone that plays that week to be on their game. But I am the louder voice on the field and I take that responsibility."
