Arthur has Parra on road to success, says Lane

Brad Arthur isn't the highest-profile coach going around in the NRL but he was one of the main reasons why Shaun Lane decided to come from Manly to Parramatta.

In contract talks last year, the Sea Eagles were unable to guarantee the second-rower a starting spot, with Curtis Sironen returning from an ACL injury and Joel Thompson ensconced in the other run-on role.

Arthur tempted Lane west by telling him that he was eager to include the 24-year-old in his starting side.

The Blue & Golds have risen from the depths of last season's wooden-spoon disaster to open 2019 with four wins from six heading into Sunday's clash with the Knights.

Arthur is off contract at the end of the season, along with several Eels players, and Lane is hoping club management rewards the coach with a contract extension.

"From the moment I meet Brad last year when I was negotiating, he seemed like a top bloke to me," Lane said.

"I would love to see him stay. 

"My talk with him was one of the biggest reasons why I came over here (to Parramatta)."

Lane doesn't have to worry about any contractual headaches as he is signed up until the end of 2020.

After stints at the Bulldogs, Warriors and Manly, he wants to remain at the Eels long term.

"I only have this year and next year but it's good to know that your future is secure for now," Lane said.

"I love it here. The whole time I've been here it has really felt like a home for me."

Lane said despite the side annihilating Wests Tigers 51-6 on Monday, they will go into Sunday's match at McDonald Jones Stadium with the same attitude as their opening six rounds.

"They haven't had the best start to the season so far. So they're going to come out and try and turn that around in front of their home crowd.

"You know what we're going to get from the Knights - it's going to be a tough game.

"We're not going to go up there complacent, we're going to go into it with the same attitude that we've had the last few weeks and hopefully get the same result."
