Heart to hearts with Robbo helping 'unsatisfied' Crichton fit in

Honest conversations with coach Trent Robinson are helping Sydney Roosters backrower Angus Crichton adjust to a difficult transition period with his new club.

Crichton was dubbed a big-name signing at the Roosters last season after he quit the Rabbitohs to join the defending premiers on a lucrative three-year deal.

But his performances on the paddock haven't been anywhere near as productive as his days at Redfern and the 23-year-old now finds himself coming off the bench for the Roosters after losing his NSW jumper for the final two games of the Origin series.

Robinson has named Crichton on the bench for the third consecutive week, a decision the Temora product accepts is required to recapture his best form.

"I'm not satisfied with where my football is at with the Roosters," Crichton told pan66.com.

"Robbo and I are working towards making sure we get the best footy out of me in the long-term and trying to improve me as a player by understanding the game more and how we play here at the Chooks.

"There's always little hiccups and things don't go to plan but I think we're both on the same page and in a position to better each other.

"I really respect Robbo as a coach and a person. I'm here learning and fitting into an already great team. He's been around a long time and one of his biggest strengths is managing people. I have got a lot of trust in his process."

Crichton wouldn't be drawn into discussion when asked what areas he needed to work on as part of his development back into form.

He responded well to produce a season-high 146 metres against the Wests Tigers last week to go with 36 tackles in a solid all-round display.

"Nothing I want to repeat on the record but just little things to make me a better player," Crichton said.

"Robbo has coached a lot of great backrowers. I'm trusting him and understanding where he's coming from.

"If I have that attitude to improve every week only good things will come."

Crichton watched on as the Blues triumphed in the series decider on Wednesday night but is now determined to ensure the Roosters take their opportunity to win back-to-back titles.

"My biggest priority now is to play some of my best footy," he said.

"Obviously it was disappointing but that's life, you get on with the next role at hand and push forward.

"I think there were bits that were positive and others that we need to be better in but it's a step in the right direction."
