Robbie Farah was ruled out of Sunday's showdown with the Sharks but in a dramatic development was called in at the last minute after Corey Thompson suffered an injury in the warm-up.

The Leichhardt crowd rises for Farah

The veteran hooker, bound for retirement, was trying to make an early return from a broken leg and was omitted from the game-day 17.

But when Thompson suffered a strained Achilles tendon while preparing on field, Farah was brought into the squad for what could be his last match before hanging up the boots.

"I wasn't quite sure early in the week about Rob and I made a decision but I'll share with you now, believe it or not, he's actually getting himself strapped up because I've actually got Corey Thompson with a little bit of an aggravated calf," McGuire said in a live cross pre-game on Fox League.

"It's amazing this game and what it throws at you. What more do you want for the crowd coming into the game today?"

Paul Momirovski switches to fullback with Michael Chee Kam promoted to the starting line-up in the centres and Farah slotting in on the bench.
