Good start key for Warriors against high-flying Broncos

A fast start will be central to the Warriors' plans this Saturday at the SCG as they look to keep their grand final hopes alive by becoming the first team in NRLW history to beat the Brisbane Broncos.

The Broncos blew the Roosters off the park last week with two tries inside the opening 10 minutes on the way to a 20-0 victory, and Warriors assistant coach Justin Morgan said it was vital Brisbane weren't allowed to build confidence early in the match.

Heading into this weekend's final round Brisbane are already through to the grand final, with the Warriors, Roosters and Dragons all vying for the remaining spot.

"In both games I've seen Brisbane play they've started very well and probably haven't been put under a great deal of pressure by opposition teams," Morgan said.

"St George [Illawarra] in week one made a number of early errors and then last week against the Roosters [Brisbane scored early].

"So it's important for us in that first 20 minutes to stay in the arm wrestle with them."

Broncos v Warriors: NRLW Round 3

A strong start is also likely to be important if the Warriors are to foot it with the dominant Brisbane forward pack, which last week had each of Millie Boyle, Amber Hall and Tazmin Gray run for more than 100 metres.

The Warriors on the other hand haven't had a single forward reach that mark across the first two games, with captain Georgia Hale acknowledging they have a huge task ahead of them.

"We have got to be realistic, we are coming up against a well-oiled and classy side with really strong middles who want to put up their hands and set a platform for the rest of their team," Hale told pan66.com.

"Rona [Peters] in the middle is so strong and the new addition Boyle has made a name for herself with her last two performances.

"I think we have a forward pack to match them, if not better them, it's really just going to come down to our attitude on the day."

Hale said her team would be keeping a particularly close eye on Hall, who has averaged 106 metres across the first two games of the season and registered five tackle breaks.

Hall is set to come up against six of her Richmond Roses teammates from the Auckland club competition, and Hale said there will be plenty of gentle sledging.

"I play alongside Amber week in and week out for Richmond and I'm lucky to have her on my side there," Hale said.

"But we can maybe get in her head a little bit as well this weekend, because it'll be hard for her to come up against a full side of friends and close teammates.

"We have that [insight] with having played alongside her all season."

Bartlett buzzing after NRLW debut

Meanwhile Morgan said he's hoping an improved forward effort will allow the halves pairing of Charntay Poko and Timaima Ravisa to get more involved in the game, after they struggled to make an impact in last week's 26-6 loss to the Dragons.

The pair are playing at NRLW level for the first time this season and on Saturday will come up against arguably the competition's best playmaking duo in Jillaroo Ali Brigginshaw and Kiwi Fern Raecene McGregor.

"I think our halves pair will most probably need better go forward. We probably didn't get the punch we would have liked [last week]," Morgan said.

"We haven't seen the best of either of them at the moment… it's always hard for halves to have an impact on a game when you are not making the metres [as a team].

"They're both very determined to make sure they put in a good performance this weekend, so we need to make sure as a group that we give them the best opportunity to do that."
