Tonga prepare to face Australia at Mt Smart.

On this day, Mt Smart Stadium becomes a sea of red, the Crushers chase a Wallaby great and Italy pull off a massive upset over England. 

1969   

Raiders legend Laurie Daley was born on this day in 1969. Daley debuted for Canberra in 1987 and went on to play 244 games for the Green Machine, winning premierships in 1989, 1990 and 1994. He played 23 Origins for NSW and 21 Tests for Australia.

1994

The Crushers reportedly offer Wallaby centre Jason Little $300,000 a season to switch codes.

1995   

Australian great Reg Gasnier becomes the 11th person elevated to legend status in the Sports Australia Hall of Fame.

2007    

New Zealand’s All Golds, coached by Wayne Bennett and including Australian prop Steve Price, come from behind to defeat a Great Britain Selection 25-18 in a commemorative match at Warrington’s Halliwell Jones Stadium.

2013

Italy stun England 15-14 in a World Cup warm-up match at Salford. Newcastle winger Josh Mantellato emerges the hero for Italy with a field goal, two minutes from full-time.

2017   

England second-rower Elliott Whitehead re-signs with the Canberra Raiders until the end of the 2020 season.

2017   

Cooper Cronk sends Sydney’s NRL clubs into a lather after making a request through his manager, George Mimis, to find him a club for 2018. The Sydney Roosters are named as the favourites to land his signature. 

2018   

Greeted by unprecedented scenes in a sold-out Mt Smart Stadium crowd of 26,214, Australia overcome the overwhelming support for Tonga to win an historic Test match 34-16.

2020

South Sydney forward Ethan Lowe is forced to announce his retirement at the age of 29 after suffering a neck injury earlier in the season.
