On this day, Gorden Tallis hints at retirement and refereeing great Bill Harrigan becomes a consultant at the Roosters.

1941

English born Canterbury and Cronulla player George Taylforth is born. In 1967 Taylforth set a record for points in a season with 204. He scored two tries and kicked 99 goals.

1996

More than 30 players walk out on the Gold Coast club after a no-confidence vote in boss Jeff Muller.

1997

Canterbury allow winger Hazem El Masri to play for Lebanon in the ARL World Sevens.

2002

Oscar-winning actor Russell Crowe throws a party on his property near Coffs Harbour for the South Sydney Rabbitohs' first-grade squad.

2004

Brisbane captain Gorden Tallis says there is a "big chance" he will retire at the end of the 2004 season. His stellar career ended prior to the 2005 season after 214 clubs games, 17 State of Origin appearances and 13 Tests.

The Sydney Roosters recruit Bill Harrigan to act as an "informal advisor" to coach Ricky Stuart in 2004.

2004

Wests Tigers down Parramatta 18-7 in the final of the World Sevens to take out the club's first title. Scott Sattler is named player of the tournament. 

2012

Melbourne hooker Cameron Smith and Dragons halfback Ben Hornby are ruled out of the NRL All Stars team through injury. Aaron Payne (North Queensland) and Nathan Fien (St George Illawarra) replace them.
