After being overpowered by the red-hot Eels, Brisbane have another chance to prove they can hang with the elite teams when they host premiers Sydney Roosters.

The back-to-back champs started the season 0-2 but sounded a warning shot to the rest of the competition last weekend by clinically disposing of South Sydney.

The spoils were shared when the Broncos and Roosters met twice in 2019, with the Tricolours recording a thumping 36-4 victory before Brisbane upstaged them 15-10 later in the year.

Team News

Broncos: Hooker Jake Turpin has been ruled out after failing to overcome a leg injury. Cory Paix will make his debut, starting at hooker. Jesse Arthars replaces the suspended Kotoni Staggs at centre with Herbie Farnworth on the wing, and Ethan Bullemor starts for Alex Glenn (leg cut) in the back row. Fanitesi Niu and Rhys Kennedy join the bench. Xavier Coates and Tom Dearden drop off the extended bench. Pride Petterson-Robati was also omitted from the squad 24 hours before kick-off. The Broncos have won three of their past four games against the Roosters.

Roosters: James Tedesco has been ruled out after waking up on Thursday with a temperature. Under the NRL's bio-security rules, anyone with a temperature above 37.2 degrees cannot enter a match venue. Brett Morris shifts to fullback with Ryan Hall on the wing. Siosiua Taukeiaho starts at prop, with Lindsay Collins moving to the interchange and Sitili Tupouniua dropping out of the 17. Mitchell Aubusson and Lachlam Lam were not listed when the Roosters cut their squad back to 19 on Wednesday night.

Key Match-Up

Opposing halfbacks Kyle Flanagan and Brodie Croft can relate to one another. Born one year apart, the youngsters arrived at their clubs in the pre-season and are tasked with marshalling the proud teams around the park. Croft was outstanding in round one, while Flanagan found his feet last weekend. The No.7 that shows the most composure will help their side massively.
