Starling arrested over Central Coast incident

Canberra hooker Tom Starling was one of four men charged after police were allegedly assaulted during an incident on the Central Coast on Saturday night.

According to a NSW Police statement, police assisted security who were involved in an altercation with a patron who had allegedly failed to leave a restaurant and licenced premises at Kincumber.

Starling has been charged with affray, assault, resist or hinder police officer in the execution of duty.

The Raiders released a statement on Sunday morning to say they “have been made aware of an incident involving Tom Starling overnight. The club has informed the NRL integrity unit”.

The club said it would not be making any further comment on the matter.

An NRL spokesman said: “The Canberra Raiders have reported an alleged incident involving Tom Starling to the Integrity Unit.

“The Integrity Unit is liaising with both NSW Police and the club.”

Starling played one game for Newcastle in 2018 before and three matches for the Raiders last year before rising to prominence with 14 more appearances for Canberra in their 2020 finals campaign which ended with defeat at the hands of eventual premiers Melbourne in the preliminary final.
