Warriors coach Nathan Brown says he will consider using star fullback Roger Tuivasa-Sheck in different positions for the remainder of the season.
Tuivasa-Sheck won a Dally M medal playing at the back in 2018, but was shuffled out to a wing on defence against the Melbourne Storm on Sunday night with experienced coach Nathan Brown opting to use debutant Reece Walsh at fullback.
The move didn’t pay dividends on the scoreboard as the New Zealand side fell to a disappointing 42-20 loss to the remaining premiers, but Brown admits he may continue with his skipper in a different role.
"Rog may have defended on a wing, but he actually played as a first or second receiver on the right side of the field," Brown said.
Great signs from debutant Walsh as he hands Maumalo his second
"Preston Campbell won a comp medal defending on the wing and playing five-eighth for Penrith, Shaun Berrigan won a comp for the Broncos playing hooker and defending in the centres.
"Recruiters buy good players and coaches have got to try and fit them in the team somehow."
Tuivasa-Sheck's move from fullback was due to mini injury crisis at the Warriors, with experienced duo Tohu Harris and Peta Hiku among the players not currently at Brown's disposal.
Walsh at it again as Maumalo gets his hat-trick
It meant Walsh was thrust into the starting side alongside fellow debutant Rocco Berry and Brown was pleased with the performance of the young duo.
"We could see Reece’s talent there today and he is a very talented kid," Brown noted.
"He has got a lot of work to do on his game, but any player to have two try assists on debut in a good effort, especially against Melbourne and when you are 18."
