Lomax ready to muscle up for Moses as future teammates combine

Blues flyer Zac Lomax is ready to roll up his sleeves for teammate Mitch Moses in Game Two on Wednesday as the soon-to-be Eels star pledges to put the body on the line for his future general.

If any Parramatta fan needed a glimmer of hope for the future it could come in Wednesday’s State of Origin clash in Melbourne when Lomax and Moses link up for what will be the first of many games.

The 2025 Eels recruit and veteran halfback have crossed paths earlier than expected after Moses was recalled into camp for Game Two and Lomax said he is ready to make a statement to his future teammate.

“We’re both on the right edge so it’s a bit ironic how it works but I’m just super pumped to be playing with Mitch,” Lomax said in camp.

“Mitch is a competitor, he’s similar to the half that I play with now in Benny Hunt, they’re just competitors that want to win.

“When you’ve got the smallest lads on the field that play with their hearts on their sleeve you want to play your role for them too being a bigger body.

“They’re your generals, they steer the ship and you’ve got a job to do for them.”

Looking right at home on debut in Game One, the 25-year-old outside back has been stinging to get another taste of the State of Origin arena and is excited by his new right edge combination led by Moses.

A strong and skilful winger known to fly up for a high ball or leap onto a kick in the in goal, Lomax is excited to be the beneficiary of the playmaker known for his poise off the boot.

“I get along really well with him, he’s a great player and obviously his kicking game is one of the best in the game,” Lomax said.

“He always puts it in that spot, that’s why he’s there and I’m sure that’s going to work well for us.

“He’s obviously a leader there at the Eels and he’s playing Origin now because he’s been a class player for them over a number of years.

“He’s got a really cool head on his shoulders, he knows what he wants and gets around the field and demands what he wants and that’s what you want as a half.

“Mitchy has a good presence about him, loves having a good time but when it comes footy, once you step over the white line he’s really educated and really dissects the game so I’m sure he’s going to have a really good night on Wednesday.”

With Game One goal kicker Nicho Hynes omitted from Maguire’s Game Two side to face the Maroons in Melbourne, Lomax is in the running to take over goal kicking duties on Wednesday.

Spotted alongside South Sydney star Latrell Mitchell perfecting their trade before training in the Blue Mountains on Thursday, the St George winger assured he’s up to the challenge if called upon.

“I love kicking and I’ve done it forever so nothing changes, you’ve just got a bigger audience,” Lomax said.

“Your ritual, your pre-game, everything leading into it. The pressure is what comes with it but you use it as excitement and that’s why you’re there because you’ve been able to perform consistently over a period of time.”
